Sonopress announces a major achievement: The high-tech company, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of optical storage media, has successfully concluded its process development for 3-ply Ultra HD Blu Ray Discs ahead of time. The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has now officially approved the Gütersloh plant for production of the innovative 100-gigabyte disc.
The production approval, received earlier this week, marks the final go-ahead for the fully automated manufacture of the next-generation storage media known as 4K Discs. In the lead-up to certification, the engineers and process technicians in East Westphalian had spent months optimizing the manufacturing processes of the microstructures and upgrading their production equipment for the much larger data volumes.
Since February this year, Sonopress has been one of the few globally certified companies for producing Ultra HD Blu Ray discs with 66 gigabytes of storage. With the triple layer disc now realized, which can hold up to 100 gigabytes of data, Sonopress has set another milestone in the promising 4K segment. “We are very proud to be one of the world’s first providers to master this new technology,” says Sonopress CEO Sven Deutschmann, adding: “Our first orders for the 100 GB disc are already in production.”
