Vinyl eradicated the 8-track and the cassette at its peak was bigger in sales than the CD. Streaming is the next game changer and the size of the cake for the physical media is getting smaller and smaller with sales that only account for 17% of the music industries total revenue.

Vinyl has been the shining star in physical media and grew somewhere between 9% – 13%.  Although the numbers aren’t exact, neither is the counting.
